A tradition of world-class
safety standards
From the very start, Subaru engineers have focused on testing and developing some of the most robust and technologically advanced active and passive safety systems in the business. These systems give all Subaru drivers increased confidence on all types of roads and in all conditions. This is especially true of the 2024 Subaru WRX, which strikes a perfect balance between sheer excitement and absolute security.
Heightened response, increased safety
When you decide to continue the legacy of a world-class sportscar, you abandon all thought of cutting corners—authentic performance means performance across the board, including active safety. This is why the WRX is equipped with a legendary all-wheel drive system, striking agility and superior visibility. These elements are supported by class-leading active safety systems such as , multi-mode Vehicle Dynamics Control, active torque vectoring and high-performance brakes. These are the qualities that combine to give the 2024 Subaru WRX excellent evasive capabilities, no matter how challenging the circumstances.
Superior sightlines, heightened visibility
Engineering a superior enthusiast car relies on many elements, not least of which is creating the feeling of being in complete control. Using this as a guiding principle, the 2024 WRX has been engineered to deliver superior visibility in all directions. The steeply raked windshield, narrow A-pillar, generous glass area, high seating position and door-mounted side mirrors work together to keep blind spots to a minimum and to boost driver confidence to greater heights.
EyeSight® Driver Assist Technology
This advanced system utilizes two cameras to monitor activity on the road ahead, help identify potential danger and provide assistance to the driver in times of need. EyeSight® features multiple advanced active safety systems all-in-one: Adaptive Cruise Control, Adaptive Cruise Control with Vehicle Hold (for models with SPT), Emergency Automatic Steering (Sport trim and up), Pre-Collision Braking, Pre-Collision Throttle Management (for models with SPT), Lead Vehicle Start Alert, Lane Centring Assist, Lane Departure Warning and Sway Warning, and Lane Keep Assist. Besides using cameras with a wider angle of view, the system has EyeSight Assist Monitor to help focus the driver’s attention on the most important information and Emergency Automatic Steering to help further mitigate collisions. This advanced active safety system now comes standard on all WRX models.
Reverse Automatic Braking
Available only on the WRX Sport (SPT) and the WRX GT (SPT), this system detects obstructions behind the vehicle and automatically applies the brakes if it appears the risk of a collision is high. The system also incorporates a warning feature, which triggers different patterns of alarms according to the distance your car is away from an object or obstruction.
High Beam Assist
Standard on all versions of the Subaru WRX, this system allows the driver to keep the high beams on at all times. When the system detects an oncoming vehicle or the distance to the vehicle in front is reduced, High Beam Assist automatically dims the headlights. When other vehicles are far enough away, the system automatically switches the high beams on again.
Steering Responsive Headlights
These LED headlights automatically angle in the direction the car is turning, providing better illumination and increased levels of safety. Available on the WRX RS, Sport-tech and GT, these headlights also cast a brighter and whiter beam for improved visibility. In addition, the headlights are automatically activated by the windshield wipers to ensure greater safety in rainy conditions.
High-performance Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS)
The braking system on the WRX incorporates the latest developments in stopping technology, all engineered with superior safety in mind. Electronic Brake-force Distribution automatically adjusts front/rear brake pressure under different vehicle loads, while Brake Assist automatically provides added stopping power in panic-braking situations. All manual transmission equipped WRX get a larger brake master cylinder for better braking performance.
Subaru Rear/Side Vehicle Detection System (SRVD)
The available SRVD system has three advanced active safety functions: Blind Spot Detection, Lane Change Assist and Rear Cross Traffic Alert. Blind Spot Detection identifies vehicles behind the C-pillars and in other blind spots. Lane Change Assist detects fast-approaching vehicles when you’re about to change lanes. Lastly, using a sensor in the back of the vehicle, Rear Cross Traffic Alert warns of vehicles approaching from either direction while you’re reversing out of a parking space or driveway.
Rearview Camera
Standard on all versions of the WRX, the rearview camera projects an image of what’s immediately behind the vehicle onto the infotainment screen. The camera is located close to the centre of the vehicle and captures a wide view to ensure a natural, distortion-free image. Dynamic guide lines show the driver which direction to turn the steering wheel, making the art of reversing easier than ever.
Multi-mode Vehicle Dynamics Control (VDC)
The WRX features multi-mode VDC†, a sophisticated stability control system with three driver-selectable settings: normal mode, track mode and off. These settings control when and how much the system intervenes by adjusting the amount of torque sent to each wheel. This system uses multiple sensors to predict when a loss of traction is likely to occur, giving the driver increased control over the situation and increased confidence in all driving conditions, from the everyday commute to the closed circuit.
† VDC is also known as electronic stability control.
Intuitive Active Torque Vectoring System
Active torque vectoring is another layer of active safety—and another bit of advanced technology that lets you play harder with increased confidence. When entering a corner at speed, the system automatically analyzes the steering angle and g-forces, then applies braking force to the inside front wheel to help keep the car on its intended line.
Passive safety, aggressive protection
All Subaru vehicles feature a wide range of passive safety systems designed to deliver class-leading levels of protection. Exceptionally rigid construction that incorporates the latest thinking in passive safety protection is the starting point. This is then supported by technology that minimizes the potential harm from collisions and, in turn, generates greater peace of mind.
Advanced Ring-Shaped Reinforcement Frame
In this proprietary frame design, the roof is bonded to the side pillars and the floor, strengthening the passenger compartment overall. Engineered for superior crashworthiness, the frame dissipates and/or redirects impact energy coming from all possible directions. A front crumple zone, high-strength door beams and frame members, and a restructured rear bumper provide even more protection. Strength within, strength throughout.
All-around Protection—at All Times
A keen focus on superior passive safety standards is an integral part of the Subaru offering—even for the most high-performing vehicles in the line-up. The 2024 WRX features a full complement of supplemental restraints, including dual-stage deployment front airbags, front seat-mounted side-impact airbags, a driver’s knee airbag, and side-curtain airbags for front and rear outboard occupants.
Whiplash-reducing Front Seats
The front sport seats on the WRX have been designed for superior performance, but they also perform an important safety function. The seats feature rigid frames, anti-whiplash headrests and energy-absorbing inner seat springs to help mitigate the effects of a rear-end collision and reduce the chance of injury
Break-away Engine
In the event of a head-on collision, the SUBARU BOXER® engine and the transmission are engineered to absorb impact energy. The engine and transmission then break away from the vehicle structure and drop below the passenger cabin for added protection. This two-stage safety system is a marvel of engineering and a hallmark of Subaru design.
