Ottawa Current Events: Spring

Spring is here! The trees are starting to bloom, the sun is in the air, and it is time to get out of the house. Ottawa has a lot to offer this time of the year, and we wanted to highlight some of the great and exciting events coming up in the area. Ranging from auto shows to art events, there is something for everyone! These events take place from April-May, so open your calendars and have some fun.

Experience music through different art forms in an immersive on-stage chain reaction of creative expressions from one artist to another. Ottawa New Music Creators (ONMC) is thrilled to present Art Crush, an exciting and genre-defying interdisciplinary group featuring violinist Marc Djokic, visual artist Avery Zhao, and dancer Ariana Pirela Sánchez.

Irish Film Fest

Irish Film Festival: Ottawa 

  • When: April 8th-14th 
  • Where: 2 Daly Ave, Ottawa 

The Irish Film Festival Ottawa is a non-profit organization that celebrates Irish culture, language, humour, and history through the modern medium of film. Founded in March 2014, the festival highlights recent films of all genres from Irish filmmakers in a three-day event that also incorporates Irish music, dance, and other arts. Their vision is to bring Irish film and filmmakers to Ottawa to support and promote Irish culture and to inspire and develop Ottawa’s local film-making community.

Toronto Motorama Custom Car & Motorsports Expo

Motorama Custom Car & Motorsports Expo is Canada’s biggest automotive enthusiast and motorsports show, featuring a wide range of vehicles, exhibitors and displays. Find custom Cars, Classics, Hot Rods, Rat Rods, Tuners, Exotics, and racing vehicles of all kinds at this weekend’s long auto event in Ontario.

 CHEO

CN Cycle for CHEO 

  • When: May 1st  
  • Where:  LeBreton Flats Park, Ottawa 

CN Cycle for CHEO is a fun, non-competitive event that offers a wide range of cycling and walking routes for people of all ages and abilities! This is a virtual fundraiser to support oncology care and research at CHEO. Cycle, run or walk any distance and collect donations to help CHEO find better treatment options so that more kids can survive cancer with fewer long-term effects. Participate and fundraise until May 1, 2022!

PIGS: Canada’s Pink Floyd – Coming Back to Life Tour

On their Coming Back to Life tour, PIGS, Canada’s only national touring Floyd tribute, is bringing the majestic music and legendary concert experience of Pink Floyd to fans across North America. Audiences can look forward to flawless performances of songs from The Wall, The Dark Side of the Moon, Wish You Were Here, and Animals, along with other classic favourites and rarities from Meddle to The Division Bell. It is impossible to experience a more authentic or in-depth Pink Floyd show anywhere else! 

Using authentic equipment, the band goes to great lengths to recreate the sound and live concert experience of Pink Floyd’s 70s era. Pink Floyd’s live show was always a huge part of their appeal – and PIGS has been working to keep that experience alive for generations to come.

Ottawa Maker Festival

The Ottawa Maker Festival continues the work of the Ottawa Maker Faire by presenting a non-profit, volunteer organized event that highlights local makers, innovators, sponsors, and partners. The yearly event will display the Ottawa Maker community by providing Makers the opportunity to display and showcase their innovative solutions, ideas, projects, and more.

Canadian Tulip Festival 

  • When: May 13th-23rd

The Canadian Tulip Festival preserves the memorable role of the Canadian troops in the liberation of the Netherlands and Europe, as well as commemorates the birth of Dutch Princess Margriet in Ottawa during World War II—the only royal personage ever born in Canada. 

The Canadian Tulip Festival has been celebrating the tulip, an international symbol of friendship and peace, since 1953. The first Canadian Tulip Festival was held at the suggestion of world-renowned photographer Malak Karsh.
