2018 Subaru Outback: new features, safety as the priority

Published on June 29 2017

The 2018 Subaru Outback is a mid-size SUV alternative that provides great driving dynamics as well as performance and versatility in the cabin. This year, the Outback comes refreshed with more interior comfort and convenience, as well as new technology. It is available in 2.5i and 3.6R versions with many trims to choose from (Base, Touring, Limited, Premier).

Great performance for the 2018 Subaru Outback

The 2018 Subaru Outback offers two engine options. First, the 2.5-litre 4-cylinder that develops 175 hp and 174 lb-ft of peak torque comes with a seven-speed CVT transmission with manual mode and paddle shifters.

For a more powerful driving experience, you may opt for the 256 hp, 3.6-litre, six cylinder engine. This powerplant is also mated to the CVT transmission. It can develop up to 247 lb-ft of torque, 90% of which is available between 2,000-6,000 rpm for exceptional response at all vehicle speeds.

The 2018 Subaru Outback comes with a standard Subaru symmetrical full-time, All-Wheel Drive with a selectable X-Mode that optimizes engine output and CVT ratio position, increases active all-wheel drive engagement and uses enhanced control logic for the Vehicle Dynamics Control stability system.

A rugged yet elegant cabin in the 2018 Subaru Outback in Ottawa, Ontario

Inside the cabin, the new 2018 Subaru Outback is elegantly designed. It gets new premium materials and a redesigned centre console. Genuine stitching details on the dashboard are offered on the Touring, Limited and Premier trims and the Limited and Premier models boast stitching details on the seats and door panels, high-gloss black trim and silver-color bezels for various controls.

On the multimedia side, a new 6.5-inch multimedia system (an 8.0-inch screen is also available as an option). This new STARLINK multimedia system comes with Bluetooth wireless capability, iPod control, smartphone integration with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, audio streaming, a USB port and an auxiliary input jack. Some trims come with dual USB ports.

Outside, the 2018 Subaru Outback boasts style and attitude, and safety remains a top priority. The high beam assist is included on the Touring, Limited, and Premier models with EyeSight Driver Assist Technology to help the driver during night driving, it automatically switches the headlights to low beam when the system detects either a vehicle in front or an oncoming vehicle, then returns to high beam when the road ahead clears. Also available are the steering-responsive headlights (SRH) that directs the light into turns as the driver steers.

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) awarded the EyeSight-equipped Outback the 2016 Top Safety Pick+ award. Call us at Ogilvie Subaru to know more about the 2018 Subaru Outback.
